Starting from your accommodation we head to Permet, the town of flowers, famous for traditional recipes, delicious homemade deserts, as well as local raki and wine. We take the riverside panoramic road to Dragoti’s Bridge built by Ansaldi during WWI at the foot of Mount Golik (historical battle site during the Italo-Greko conflict), we stop to take some pictures, and then proceed to Këlcyrë amid green fields of the wide prolific valley of Vjosa surrounded by high hills and mountains on both sides, for about 25km towards Permet. We can’t help trying local raki or jams and then visit military barracks built and used by Italian soldiers during the world wars, and then drive off the beaten track towards the termal waters and famous bridge of Benje and enjoy a bath there time or weather permitting. We have lunch tasting the traditional dishes accompanied by a glass of homemade wine or raki. Then we drive back to Gjirokastra via the national road after stoping for a coffe or tea at the fascinating Kelcyra Gorge.
