Monument of Famous People of Gjirokastra

To the right of Çajupi Hotel you will find a Monument built by the Municipality honouring three citizens of Gjirokastra: Eqerem Cabej (1908-1980), an eminent historian, linguist, and educator who was a founding member of Albanian Academy of Sciences and gave his name to Gjirokastra University
Ismail Kadare (1936-) , the internationally famous Albanian writer who wrote many books for Gjirokastra, and describes the city in the best way to get known worldwide
Musine Kokalari (1917-1983) She was a writer and co-founder of the Albanian social democratic Party (1943) who spent 37 year in prison during the communist regime and died forsaken in northern Albania
Enver Hoxha(1908-1985) the notorious leader of communist regime, who was born in Gjirokastra, in Palorto neighbourhood. He is known for establishing the worst communist regime in Eastern Europe.
