The Illyrian Castle of Këlcyrë is located on the rocky slopes of the Trebeshina Mountains at the entrance of the Këlcyrë Gorge. This area has been identified as the town of Parauej Eriboia, settled by the Illyrian tribe who lived in the region of Permet. Research has also suggested a second hypothesis that the ruins were not a city but an Illyrian fort. The castle construction has 4 distinct stages: first in 3rd-4th centuries BC.; second in 3rd -5th centuries; third in 6th-18th centuries, in which significant medieval reconstruction occurred; and fourth in the early 19th century, in which military fortifications and a gallery were constructed, and facilities built for the deployment of heavy weapons.
